AIFF proposes strict adherence for conducting SPL: “cannot afford to play with the future of the registered players of these clubs” Federation writes

As the Sikkim Premier League enters its second season, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) intervenes. The football governing body expresses concerns about SPL 2024 not complying with established norms.

In a letter to the Sikkim Football Association (SFA), the AIFF states, “Your attention is drawn to the proposed Sikkim Premier League, Season-11, being conducted in Sikkim by the private entity M/S. Football Development (P) Limited.” The AIFF emphasizes its earlier advice for strict adherence to norms during the inaugural season, citing that six out of eight participating clubs were not registered.

The federation highlights AIFF President’s previous visit to SPL Season 1, stating, “On that visit, the President, AIFF, had advised all stakeholders to strictly adhere to the laid-down norms from the 2024 session.”

Proposing compliance with AIFF norms for SPL, the federation issues a warning about the future of registered players: “Please ensure compliance with the norms. We, as the governing body of football in the country, cannot afford to play with the future of the registered players of these clubs,” concludes the statement.

Sikkim Premier League is a franchise-based football league organized by former Indian international footballers of Sikkim, including Nirmal Chettri, Sanju Pradhan, Robin Gurung, Bikash Jairu, and Nim Tshering Lepcha, under the registered private entity Football Development Private Limited (FDPL).
