Apple to give iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus more RAM, better connectivity features reveals leak

The smartphone landscape is already buzzing with excitement as industry giants roll out back-to-back launches in the early days of 2024.

Amidst this flurry of releases, anticipation is building for Apple’s next iPhone, slated for its traditional September unveiling. Reports suggest that Apple has big upgrades in store for its upcoming iPhone lineup.

Recent leaks, including insights from technology analyst Jeff Pu at Haitong International Securities, shed light on potential enhancements to the iPhone 16 series.

Pu’s research note indicates that both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may feature an 8GB RAM upgrade, surpassing the 6GB in their predecessors, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. This boost in RAM is expected to result in smoother multitasking performance for the new iPhones, across all models in the iPhone 16 lineup.

In terms of connectivity, Pu suggests that the iPhone 16 series might incorporate WiFi 6E support for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. This advancement utilizes the 6 GHz band, promising higher wireless speeds and reduced signal interference with compatible routers, a feature previously exclusive to the Pro models in the iPhone 15 lineup.

Furthermore, Pu speculates that the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 5G modem, an upgrade from the X70 used in the iPhone 15 series. The regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, however, are expected to retain the older X70 modem, with the Pro models enjoying the advantages of a faster and more efficient X75.

Details surrounding the iPhone 16 series continue to surface, with reports suggesting intriguing additions.

According to internal leaks from Apple, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could maintain a design similar to the iPhone 15 Pro but with notable changes, including larger screens, increased internal space, bigger batteries, and the introduction of a new Capture button for video recording.

Additionally, a new colour option and the use of Grade 5 Titanium for the build are rumoured.

Screen sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, representing an increase from previous models. This adjustment may align with anticipated camera feature upgrades.

Notable improvements include a 5x optical zoom telephoto lens and a 48MP ultrawide camera, significant advancements over the current 12MP sensors. The phones could also be powered by the A18 series chips, with the Pro models equipped with the A18 Pro variant. However, these details remain speculative, and Apple may unveil surprises in its final release.
