Will Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal open bigger than Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan in the southern market? Trade experts opine
After a horrible 2022, Bollywood made a roaring comeback in 2023 and delivered some all-time blockbusters, which will be remembered for a long time. Among these money-spinners, Jawan holds a special place as this Shah Rukh Khan starrer did unthinkable business in the southern parts of the country and with its dubbed versions and now we can expect the same thing from Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which is simultaneously releasing Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam versions apart from the original Hindi one.
In fact, Animal has garnered an extraordinary response in the Telugu-speaking markets of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in its advance booking. Looking at the current scenario, it can be said that the RK starrer has the potential to recreate the box office magic of Jawan in the south.
While the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial is expected to be a huge money-spinner, prominent trade experts have shared their opinion regarding Animal‘s potential business in the southern part of India.
When asked whether Animal has the potential to perform that well in the southern market, Akshaye Rathi replied, “Oh absolutely! I mean because it’s a film that caters to you know I mean in the south the cinema industry has very intrinsically and very carefully been you know focused on the mass audience and this is a Hindi film that actually caters to that audience unlike most Hindi films and that’s why you never know I mean it’s really good to see Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol in the team of the film promoting in Chennai and Hyderabad in these markets to meet that additional outreach and I truly believe that these things will go a long way in you know capturing the imagination of that audience in getting them to theaters and the movie is also in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada as well which you know is really a great sign so I truly hope that that can happen.”
Ramesh Bala also shared his positive thoughts of Animal working well in the southern part and said, “Yeah it’s primarily South, especially in Telugu states, it’s primarily due to the director Sandeep Vanga Reddy. He is from the Telugu states. He has done the cult movie Arjun Reddy, which was remade as Kabir Singh in Hindi. So the movie is, the advance booking is tracking like a Telugu superstar movie in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and in the rest of the South also, the advance booking is reasonably good. And Rashmika (Mandanna) is also there. Rashmika is from the South. So she’s also very popular here.”
