Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth passed away on Wednesday, 28 December, leaving a deep void in the industry. While his mortal remains were placed at the DMDK office on Friday for fans and celebrities to pay their final respects, heavyweights like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Vijay were also spotted arriving at the Island Ground in Chennai, bidding their final farewells. Amid the grief and sorrowful environment, an unexpected incident has now caught the internet’s attention, leaving fans pretty furious. Actor Vijay who paid an emotional tribute to Vijayakanth on Thursday night had a startling encounter after an unidentified individual seemingly threw a slipper at him.

Vijay was among the few celebrities who came early to pay their tributes to the late actor. He was surrounded by an unruly crowd and media personnel as he arrived at the venue. Amid the chaos, as the actor was retreating back to his vehicle, a slipper came across directly towards him.

While the police and security personnel made enough efforts to safeguard him, helping him navigate through the throng of enthusiastic fans, a few individuals managed to touch the actor and one also hurled a slipper at him. Luckily, it was intercepted by his security personnel who tossed it back into the crowd.

Fans furious at Vijay being attacked at Vijayakanth’s funeral

While such instances have now become common during celebrity appearances in public, the particular incident has left many of his fans furious over the lack of restraint and dignity among them the actors. Some also called out the amount of disrespect that fans displayed at the time of loss and the kind of mistreatment that Vijay had to deal with.

“Did someone really throw shoes on vijay? Condemnable behaviour!”, one wrote, while another one commented, “Another video of slipper being thrown at vijay. This is wrong!”

“pathetic to see fans are so hate mongers,” a third one commented.

The video is being largely shared across social media platforms, with fans strongly condemning such actions.

Vijayakanth’s funeral

Captain Vijayakanth was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai due to health issues a few days back. However, he breathed his last at 6:10 AM on Thursday, leading a wave of grief across his fans and supporters.

His mortal remains were earlier taken to his residence and were later kept at the DMDK party office in Koyambedu.

The journey for his final rites has begun as he will be laid to rest with full state honours on Friday, 29 December.
