Suryakumar Yadav will reportedly be out of action till February. The news has not been confirmed by BCCI yet but the world’s No. 1 T20I batter sort of confirmed it on his Instagram account with a video of him walking with the help of crutches and wearing a brace on his left foot.
SKY, who captained India in the T20Is in South Africa, suffered an ankle injury in the third match. Suryakumar had to sit out of the match after suffering the injury as Ravindra Jadeja captained Team India.
In the caption for his video, Suryakumar wrote: “On a slightly serious note, injuries are never fun, but I’ll take it in my stride and promise to be back, fully fit, in no time! Till then, hope you all are enjoying the holiday season and finding little joys, everyday.”
He also had fun by using the dialogue from the famous movie Welcome in the video.
Suryakumar was the ‘Player of the Series’ against South Africa with 156 runs in two matches including a century and fifty.
With no clarity on who will be India’s captain for the T20 World Cup 2024, SKY is also being seen as a player who could lead the Men in Blue in the ICC event, however, the injury setback could work against him.
Suryakumar is now expected to miss the T20I series against Afghanistan in January. India may now pick between Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma to captain the side.
