Pat Cummins likes ‘derogatory post’ on Indian team, sparks outrage
Australia clinched their sixth World Cup title by beating hosts India in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Despite maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the tournament, India were not able to stand up and withstand pressure from Australia on the day of the final. Travis Head’s outstanding century played a pivotal role in Australia’s victory, as the side dominated the chase after an iffy start and chased down the target of 241 runs with six wickets to spare.
After their World Cup win, an Australian media outlet sparked controversy by sharing a disparaging and offensive post about Team India. The post, titled “South Australian Man Gives Birth To World Record 11 Sons”, went viral and it was liked by Australian cricketers Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch. It is reported that Australia’s captain Pat Cummins initially liked the post but later unliked it as it was garnering news. The post has since gone viral, much to the disappointment of Indian fans.

R Ashwin, who was also a member of India’s World Cup 2023 squad, was all praise for the Australian captain for playing a pivotal role in securing Australia’s record-extending sixth World Cup trophy. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin praised Cummins’ performance in the finals and the preceding matches.
Ashwin said that Pat Cummins was facing problems in the tournament but then he turned it all around in the finals with his performance.
Cummins delivered crucial breakthroughs in the finals, dismissing key players like the Player of the Tournament Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, and this put a halt to India’s innings in the middle overs.
Ashwin also said, “In the final, he had a 4-5 field (four on the off-side and five on the leg-side).”
Ashwin said Cummins approached the game similar to that of an off-spinner.
“He bowled only three balls in the six-meter mark towards the stump line in the 10-over spell. He knocked off crucial wickets in the finals,” Ashwin further added.
