Neena Gupta: ‘Not necessary to believe in useless feminism, men and women are not equal’
Neena Gupta is an actor who believes in being honest and transparent in her interviews and the recent interaction with Ranveer Allahabadia is another example. She was asked about the idea of feminism and what she thinks of it. She said, “I want to say that it’s not necessary to believe in ‘faltu feminism’ or the idea that ‘women are equal to men.’”
The actress elaborated on why she said what she said- “Instead, focus on achieving financial independence and giving attention to your work. If you’re a housewife, don’t look down on it; it’s an important role. Boost your self-esteem and avoid thinking of yourself as small. That’s the main message I want to convey. Additionally, men and women are not equal. The day men start getting pregnant, that day we will be equal.”
How women need men
Narrating one of her ordeals, Gupta revealed, “I had to catch a flight once at 6 a.m. I did not have a boyfriend at that time. I came out of the house at 4 a.m. and it was dark. A man started following me, I went back to my house and I missed my flight. The next day I booked the same flight. But I stayed at my male friend’s house and he dropped me off. I need a man.”
Neena Gupta on marriage
Gupta said, “Everybody around says it’s rubbish in today’s time but I feel it’s still important. Also, I don’t think there is an alternate institution. But I also believe marriage is such a good institution in many ways. So I am really confused.”
One can’t laud veteran star Neena Gupta enough for raising her daughter designer turned actress Masaba Gupta single-handedly. While the Uunchai actress has always been vocal about her life struggles and happenings on the personal front, Neena Gupta should also be praised for continuing her career flawlessly.
