Merry Christmas director Sriram Raghavan on Vijay Sethupathi’s role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan: ‘I wish he had more…’
Popular Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi, fondly called ‘Makkal Selvan’ by his fans, has impressed the audience in Hindi markets with his performances in Mumbaikar, Farzi and Jawan. The actor has played the lead role in Sriram Raghavan’s latest release Merry Christmas co-starring Katrina Kaif.
In a recent interview, director Raghavan showered praises on the Viduthalai star and called him ‘a secure actor’. “Vijay always has so much to give to his directors. Even when you want a samosa, he will give you a buffet of options (laughs). He is such a secure actor. He did have his challenges with Hindi but because we were not making something very traditional, I just asked him to be himself. And that worked like magic,” said Sriram while talking to India Today.

The filmmaker also shared his thoughts on Vijay’s character in Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and opined that he wished that the actor had more memorable role in the movie. “As soon as it came, people really enjoyed him. Of course, with ‘Jawan’, more audiences got to see him because it had Shah Rukh Khan. But I wish he had a much more memorable role in Jawan. With this film, his first Hindi outing, I think he’s gotten what he deserves,” the filmmaker shared.
Calling him a rooted actor, Raghavan added, “He has come up the hard way. So, he’s grateful and the best part is that he’s always in the quest to learn.”
The filmmaker also spoke about fans demanding the sequels of Andhadun‘, ‘Badlapur‘, or even ‘Ek Hasina Thi‘ and said, “I don’t know, my ‘Andhadun‘ producer would be very happy as it would open better and make more money. But that can never be the criteria to make films. The story ended there and I want people to keep wondering what exactly happened. If I get a real crazy story, I might make ‘Andhadun 2’ with a new story and maybe just one scene from the first part to tantalise,”
