India’s fielding is ‘not up to the mark’, we need to work on it and fitness: Captain Harmapreet Kaur

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that her team needs to work on its fielding as they prepare for the T20 World Cup later this year. India women suffered a seven-wicket loss to Australia in the third T20I on Tuesday to lose the series 2-1. The Indian players were guilty of dropping multiple catches in the series.

“As a team we have learnt a lot. Fielding is something we were not up to the mark and after this break we will work on our fitness and fielding to come back stronger,” Harmanpreet said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

India won the Test in a historic fashion but lost the white-ball series (3-0 in ODIs).

Harmanpreet added that Indian players need to show more urgency in white-ball games, however, she was happy with the fact that they gave Australia a tough fight in the series.

“The last month we played very good cricket. They (Australia) played white-ball cricket better than us. We know that we can take our time in red-ball cricket but we need to be on our toes in white-ball cricket.”

“We always give them a fight, we were not going to give them anything easily, that is something I am proud of my team. A lot to learn from them (Australia) as well,” she said.

Australian open Beth Mooney said the India tour was a good preparation for the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

“We certainly have an eye on that T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, and we are trying to get better and improve on certain areas.”
