Team India kicked off the second Test on a promising note having bowled out South Africa for 55 at the Newlands in Cape Town. This turned out to be the lowest-ever total registered by a team against India in Test cricket. The record for the lowest Test total against India before this was held by New Zealand. The Kiwis had set the record having been bowled out for 62 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai back in December 2021. Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was India’s star performer with the ball having picked up six wickets in the first innings of the second Test against the Proteas. Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets each for the visitors on the opening day of the match.
Apart from David Bedingham and wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne, not a single South Africa player could manage to breach the two-digit mark in the first innings of the second Test.
India, however, were bowled out for 153 and South Africa were 62/3 in second innings at Stumps. The Proteas trail India by 36 runs.
