India vs Australia 3rd T20: Three storylines to follow at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati

India will be looking to clinch the T20I series with a win over Australia in the third match on Tuesday. With India leading 2-0, a victory at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday will give the Men in Blue an unassailable 3-0 in the five-match series. While in the first match at Visakhapatnam, India chased down a record target of 209 against the 2023 World Cup winners Australia, at Thiruvananthapuram, they scored 235 batting first and registered a 44-run victory.

Now from the South, the Indian bandwagon has moved to the North East where Australia face a do-or-die battle. In such a scenario, we can expect nothing less than a thrilling contest and here we list out three things to look forward to in the match.

Run fest to continue

Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Assam is getting ready to host its third T20I but if the match that took place here in 2022 is anything to go by, we should expect another high-scoring match. The two games so far in the series have witnessed run fests and a flat track is expected in Guwahati as well. In 2022 India played South Africa in Guwahati in which both teams scored over 220 runs with Men in Blue winning by 16 runs.

What is Tilak Varma’s role?

Tilak Varma impressed on his debut during the West Indies tour but in two matches so far he hasn’t done a lot to garner attention. At No. 5 in the first match, he scored 12 off 10 balls and in match 2 he was sent at No. 6, after Rinku Singh. He scored seven off two balls in Thiruvananthapuram. Now the question is what is his role in the team?

Is he a No. 5 batter? Is he a No. 6? Is he a floater in the middle order?

Tilak, meanwhile, would want to get some more time in the middle to get to a big score and strengthen his case. But for that, he would ideally need a promotion in the batting order, but that looks highly unlikely at the moment.

Also, Shreyas Iyer will be back for the next game. This means it could be Tilak’s last match in the series.

Travis Head to return?

World Cup winners Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zamap were back in second T20 but opener Travis Head didn’t. There’s a strong possibility Head could return to replace Steve Smith who reportedly has left for home along with Adam Zampa. Australia need strong starts in high-scoring games and Head is capable of providing exactly that. Otherwise, there’s no point having Head in the squad immediately after winning the World Cup.
