India vs Afghanistan: All the drama from double Super Over as Rohit and Co sweep T20 series 3-0

India’s third T20 against Afghanistan, which was a dead-rubber, turned into a massive thriller which the Men in Blue won after two Super Overs. India batted first in the match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and scored 212/4 with Rohit Sharma slamming 121 not out off 69 balls, while Rinku Singh scored 69 not out off 39 balls. In reply, Afghanistan were 167/4 by the 17th over and needed 46 from the last three overs when Gulbadin Naib went berserk.

In the final over, Afghanistan needed 19 more with Mukesh Kumar bowling. The first ball was a wide followed by a four for Naib.

With 14 more needed, Mukesh bowled a dot ball but ended up giving a wide next.

With 11 more needed from four balls, Naib collected a double followed by a six over mid-off.

The equations was just five form last two balls and Naib took couple of twos to tie the match as he finished on 55 not out off 23.

With Afghanistan batting second, they were first to bat in the first Super Over.

Naib came out to bat with Rahmanullah Gurbaz while Mukesh bowled for India

1st Super Over

Afghanistan innings:

Ball 1: Naib forced the yorker to long-off and tired taking a two but was run out at keeper’s end. One run for Afghans.

Ball 2: Mohammad Nabi came in and took a single off a yorker.

Ball 3: Gurbaz edged the yorker which flew to left of third man for a four.

Ball 4: A low full toss is only hit to sweeper cover for a single by Gurbaz.

Ball 5: Another low full toss and this time Nabi manages to send it out of the ropes for a six.

Ball 6: Three leg bye runs and Afghanistan finished on 16.

Indian innings:

Ball 1: Rohit took strike, while Yashasvi Jaiswal was at the other end. Azmatullah Omarzai bowled and gave away a leg bye single. 16 needed from five balls.

Ball 2: Another single as Jaiswal hit one to short fine leg. 15 needed from four balls.

Ball 3: Azmatullah missed yorker and Rohit punished him with a six.

Ball 4: Rohit slammed another six, this time over cover off a slower ball.

Ball 5: Rohit went after the slower ball but only got a single. Two more was needed from last ball and Rohit decided to retire hurt.

Ball 6: Rinku has joined Jaiswal as India need quick runners and two runs. A fuller ball to Jaiswal only managed to deflect it to the keeper and just one run came for India, forcing a second Super Over.

2nd Super Over:

Indian innings:

Ball 1: India got to bat first now and Rohit is back was he did not get out in the first Super Over. The first ball from Fareed Ahmad was smashed for a six over long-off.

Ball 2: A four for Rohit. It was bit streaky as the edge flew beyond backward point.

Ball 3: Single at backward point for Rohit.

Ball 4: Rinku got out for a duck trying to swing hard at a wide ball and keeper took the catch.

Ball 5: Sanju Samson came and missed his swing. Rohit tried for a single and got run out. Indian innings came to an end and Afghanistan needed only 12 to win.

Afghanistan innings:

Ball 1: Ravi Bishnoi is given the ball and he struck on the first delivery. Rinku grabbed the top-edge and Nabi had to walk back.

Ball 2: A single for Karin Janat who smashed the wider delivery to cover.

Ball 3: India win by 10 runs in second super over as Bishnoi dismissed Gurabaz, who wanted to attack but his shot was taken at long-off.
