Muzaffarpur Balika Greh rape case and how it all started

We often shut our eyes to things that doesn’t affect us. Bhumi Pednekar’s Bhakshak is one such story. According to reports, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) submitted a report to the Bihar government on May 26, 2018, that said how minor girls in Muzaffarpur’s shelter home, Balika Greh, were being sexually abused.

The Bihar government took action on this. But as per the movie Netflix’s Bhakshak, the government took time to find proper evidence. On May 29, it ensured that the girls were relocated to other protective facilities. Two days later on May 31, an FIR was filed against 11 people who were accused in the case.

About Brajesh Thakur, the main accused who ran the shelter home

Brajesh was a former Bihar People’s Party (BPP) MLA and founder of the Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti NGO who ran the shelter home where 34 girls, aged between 7 and 17, were raped and assaulted for months. They were given sleeping pills and were inhumanly assaulted. He was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault under the POCSO Act as well as gang rape.

Brajesh Thakur and 11 others who worked with him and were involved in this scam were sentenced to life imprisonment for physically and sexually assaulting several minor girls.

Thankfully, as per reports, the monster, Brajesh  is following life sentence following his conviction by a Delhi court in 2020.
