Ben Stokes undergoes successful knee surgery

England allrounder Ben Stokes announced he underwent knee surgery recently and the procedure was a success. The Test captain added that the rehabilitation process begins now for him.

Stokes’ last assignment came in the ODI World Cup where he came out of retirement in the 50-over format. His knee issues prevented him from bowling and played as a specialist batter instead. Stokes had been bowling sparsely, if at all, in the recent matches to better manage his knee troubles.

“In and out Under the knife done Rehab starts now,” said Stokes in his tweet.

Stokes’ comeback and inclusion into the World Cup squad didn’t help England at the World Cup. The 2019 champions were bundled out in the league stage with just three wins from nine matches. However it was enough for them to earn a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The 32-year-old played six matches in the World Cup scoring 304 runs, including a century and two half-centuries, at an average of 50.66 and a strike rate of 89.

Stokes will miss the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after making clear to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) that he intends to manage his workload and fitness better.

The England player was acquired by CSK for Rs 16.25 crore in the auction leading up to IPL 2023. But coming into the tournament, Stokes was hampered by injuries and played just two matches with a measly 15 runs to show from them.

For Stokes, the objective might be to recover in time for the tour to India in January. The five-match Test series gets underway on 25 January with matches in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala. Another big assignment next year is the T20 World Cup in USA and Caribbean.
