Sports this weekend: India vs England Vizag Test, India vs Pakistan Davis Cup, AFC Asian Cup quarters and more

It’s that time of the week when a majority of working individuals, as well as school and college-goers, gear up for the weekend. Some choose to let their hair down by heading to pubs and similar establishments, while others opt to relax and replenish their energy levels after an exhausting week at work.

For those who can’t live without their daily dose of sports, it’s going to be quite the action-packed weekend. Here’s a detailed look at what’s in store:

Cricket

The second Test between India and England kickstarted to action on Friday, with the Rohit Sharma-led hosts aiming to level the series after a stunning 28-run defeat in the series opener in Hyderabad.

The second and the third days of the second Test in Visakhapatnam is expected to be a key fixture for many an Indian sports fan, but that won’t be all — the final round of Super Six matches in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup will also be taking place on Saturday.

The two-Test series involving New Zealand and South Africa will also get underway from Sunday.

ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 (Star Sports Network): Bangladesh vs Pakistan, Ireland vs New Zealand, England vs Zimbabwe (all on Saturday at 1.30 pm)

Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan, only Test in Colombo (Sony Sports Network): Days 2 (Saturday) and 3 (Sunday) from 10 am.

New Zealand vs South Africa, 1st Test in Mount Maunganui (Amazon Prime Video): Day 1 (Sunday) from 3.30 am.

Australia vs West Indies, 2nd ODI in Sydney (Star Sports Network): From 9 am.

Australia women vs South Africa women, 1st ODI in Adelaide (Sony Sports Network): From 9.10 am

Football

The AFC Asian Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations are currently underway, with both set to witness quarter-finals take place on Saturday. The weekend is also set to witness a showdown between derby rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant and SC East Bengal, with the latter hoping to beat their old enemy for the first time in the Indian Super League. As for the Premier League, Everton take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday while Arsenal host Liverpool on Sunday.

Sunday also witnesses Real Madrid host city rivals Atletico Madrid in LaLiga and Inter Milan face Juventus in Serie A.

The matches will be telecast live on the Tennis Channel from 11.30 am onwards.
