Rohit Sharma’s return to T20Is as a batter began on a disappointing note as he was dismissed for a duck. Rohit was returning to T20Is after a gap of 14 months and clinched a six-wicket win for India as a captain to give Men in Blue a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, but with the bat, he could not score any runs. The opener was run out after a horrific mix-up with Shubman Gill and was seen blasting his opening partner in anger.
The incident took place in the first over of India’s chase when on the second delivery Rohit played a straight drive off Fazalhaq Farooqi. The shot was stopped by a diving Ibrahim Zadran at mid-off, however, there was enough time for a run and Rohit left to crease to make his way to the non-striker’s end. But Gill was caught ball watching, leaving both batters at the same end.
Rohit was not happy with his dismissal and made it clear with his reaction after the run out.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit played down the incident, however, and underlined that the team’s victory was eventually more important.
“These things happen (on the run-out). When it happens you feel frustrated, you want to be out there and score runs for the team. Everything will not go your way. We won the game, that’s more important. I wanted Gill to carry on, unfortunately, got out after playing a very good little innings,” Rohit said.
Gill was also soon dismissed in the fourth over but only after making 23 off 12 balls.
India eventually won the match as they chased down the 159-run target inside 18 overs.
The player of the match saw Shivam Dube who scored 60 not out off 40 and also took a wicket.
