Telangana: Amit Shah promises backward class CM, says will end Muslim reservation

Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah Friday said if his party is voted to power in Telangana, it will end Muslim reservation.

“We have made a lot of promises. One of them is that the CM will be made from the backward class. We will end the Muslim reservation and give reservations to SC, ST and OBC. We have also promised vertical reservation to the Madiga community,” Shah said while addressing a roadshow in poll-bound Telangana.

“We have also promised four gas cylinders free of cost in a year to the poor women of the state. We will form a committee and punish those who are responsible for corruption,” Shah added.

Assembly elections in Telangana will be held on 30 November. The counting of votes will take place on 3 December.

Campaigning in Telangana’s Jagtial on Monday, Shah had announced that the BJP “will do away with the four per cent reservation for Muslims and we will give those to SCs.”

“We have decided that the Madiga community will get vertical quota in reservation under the SC category,” he added.

The minister also promised free trips to Ayodhya once the BJP comes to power in the state.

“You are all invited to have a darshan on Ram Lalla at Ayodhya. We will pay for your trip in turns if you vote the BJP to power,” Shah said on Monday, adding that both the Congress and the BRS have opposed the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Telangana Assembly election 2023 is set to witness a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress. In the previous Assembly poll held in 2018, BRS bagged victory on 88 out of 119 seats and had a dominant vote share of 47.4 per cent. Congress came at a distant second with 19 seats. Its vote share was 28.7 per cent.
